When elected as Executive officer of Equality and Diversity, I aim to have more events when celebrating Black History, LGBT + pride month and Disability awareness not just to bring these group to light but to create a community within each group, so whenever a person needs advice, support or just wants a new friend within their communities they have me to guide them in the right direction. I believe this will enrich their employability as they can network with people who understand their struggles, in their respective fields. To achieve this, I will be in close contact with students to ensure YOU understand my goals and so I know what YOU need and not just assume with things such as your education, wellbeing, networking skills etc.
My main aim is to build a community among estranged students, I will ensure that they all can call DMU their home. I would like to offer support like no other, I don’t just want to help with the right now problems I want to help solve the what if problems, a young adult who is estranged may not know certain things about the workplace, financially, socially, homecare etc. I want to give them the building blocks of life that they may not have heard about. I want to make DMU a place where people come for not only to get an education but for a support system they can have through me. I want to create a new reality of what community means, I want it to mean “The family I choose”.
