Chimdi Oriaku

As an international student myself, I understand the unique challenges we face, from homesickness and cultural adjustment to navigating the complexities of a new academic system. It’s vital that international students have a strong voice in shaping the experiences and opportunities available to them during their time at university. As your Part-Time Officer, I will ensure that our needs are heard, understood, and acted upon.

My goals include:

  1. Combatting Homesickness: Homesickness affects many international students, especially during the early months of university life. I will work to create a support network through culturally inclusive events, social gatherings, and mental health resources to help students feel more connected to both their home countries and their new communities.

  2. Advocating for Better Support: International students often encounter issues with accommodation, visas, and financial difficulties. I will push for more accessible and comprehensive guidance in these areas, ensuring students have the support they need to thrive without unnecessary stress.

  3. Creating a Diverse, Inclusive Campus: I will promote initiatives that celebrate the diversity of our international community, encouraging cultural exchange and fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

  4. Academic Support: International students can face challenges adjusting to different academic systems and expectations. I will advocate for increased academic support tailored to the needs of international students, including workshops on academic writing, assessments, and exams.

By representing you in meetings and committees, I will ensure that your voices are heard, and your concerns are addressed. Together, we can create a university experience that is enriching, supportive, and inclusive for all international students.

Let’s make our voices count!
