De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s officer team have spoken about their delight at De Montfort University (DMU)’s extended library opening hours.

DMU students have been asking for longer opening hours for a long time.  Thanks to the lobbying from DSU and commitment from the university, we can proudly announce that the Kimberlin Library will now be open to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  A massive result for all at DMU.

Dan Winney, President of DSU, said: “This is great news because it gives all students equal access to the same facilities all year round.

“DSU has been speaking to students and campaigning for this for a long time, this is going to help them tremendously.”

“As an officer team we have always been strong supporters of this development.”

The team have been working closely with the Library staff over the last 12 months which has culminated in this fantastic result.

But DSU aren't going to stop there, with the Officer Team saying there is still a way to go before their job is truly done.

Augustus Mbanasor, DP Education at DSU, said: “This was always something that I had pushed for in my manifesto and was something I have really been looking to push this year.

“Different students have different timetables that can often change during the year.  This will give all of our students a lot more flexibility in when they use the Library – my next challenge is to focus on how they use the Library.”

“In terms of improving facilities, The Big Support Survey has already found that students find it easy to access computers, but difficult to find space – so that's what we need to focus on now.”

Dan added: “This just goes to show how strong the student voice can be if used effectively and how students can work with DSU.”
