De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU)’s Officer Team will be helping hundreds of students deepen their knowledge of Hong Kong next month by delivering a number of FREE events.
Both Ahtesham Mahmood, President of DSU, and Mike Mayes, VP Media and Communications at DSU, will be flying out to the historic city alongside 350 second-year students as part of the latest mass #DMUglobal trip.
The events come after the success of similar activities held during last year’s mass #DMUglobal trips to both New York and Berlin.

Mike said: “Since before I came to university – and before #DMUglobal even existed – I have been an advocate for the fact that travel is the greatest way to learn about other cultures, the world and ourselves.
“I am so pleased to see that #DMUglobal exists to provide opportunities to our students and am very excited to join our students on another incredible trip of discovery and exploration – this time in Hong Kong. See you there!”
The Officer Team will serve as tour guides as they take hundreds of students to see the famed Symphony of Lights, some of Hong Kong’s best street food and the city’s highest point.

Ahtesham said: “Being in one of the most densely populated cities in the world, we also want to make communicating with you as easy as possible.
“So, we have created a Facebook group to make sure you know what is going on while we’re away, and will also act as a social catalyst for you before the events. It’s like being a first-year student all over again!
“We don’t want anyone sitting in their hotel room just waiting for the day to tick by – get out there and do something unforgettable!”

Film students are visiting the Hong Kong Film Archive, home to thousands of films which include some of the earliest Chinese films ever made while law students will get to engage with major international firms and barristers, as well as visit the region’s High Court.
Architecture students will get to meet the staff of one of the leading emerging practices in Hong Kong while health studies students will discover more about traditional Chinese medicine.
Alongside the academic experiences, there are plenty of cultural activities on offer including boat tours of Hong Kong’s harbour, a visit to the Temple Street Night Market and the giant Tian Tian Buddga on Lantau Island.
A big part of the visit will be DMU’s role in the UK Government’s GREAT Festival of Innovation, a four-day showcase of products, ideas, designs and plans to improve our lives in the future.
DMU is the only higher education partner for the GREAT Festival, which is led by the Department for International Trade. It aims to deepen trade and business relationships between China and the UK, and present opportunities for making new connections.
The trip will coincide with the UK Government’s GREAT Festival of Innovation, a four-day showcase of products, ideas, designs and plans to improve our lives in the future.
