DSU Celebrates: The Results

On Wednesday 13 May, hundreds of De Montfort University (DMU) students came together to celebrate their achievements, look back on the highlights of 2019/20 and see who would receive 9 awards!

DSU Celebrates – which was originally due to take place earlier this year at Kind Power Stadium – was unfortunitely cancelled due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) and learning from home. However, we felt that all students deserved recognition for their achievements, dedication and hard work, so we brought DSU Celebrates to them – online!

The virtual awards ceremony – hosted by Aisha Ismail, your Student Opportunities and Engagement Executive – was attended by students from all backgrounds. Students joined in with Zoom parties, caught up with friends and celebrated all they’ve achieved in 2019/20.

During the awards night, 9 awards were handed out. The winners of the DSU Celebrates 2019/20 awards are:

• The Community Impact Award – DMU Our World
• New Student Group of the Year Award – The Creative Industries Society
• Best Student Experience Award – Law Society
• The Inclusion Award – Islamic Society (ISOC)
• Best Performance Society Award – Hip Hop and Acapella Society
• The Inspirational Change of the Year Award – Leah Brooker
• Course Rep of the Year Award – Rebecca Jarvis
• The Student Group of the Year – DMU Music Society
• The DSU Personality of the Year – Leonie Mayer
