Hundreds of De Montfort University (DMU) students have been chosen to #PowerYourUnion as student group committee members in 2018/19.
The student leaders will serve as chairs, secretaries, treasurers as well as health and safety officers – plus numerous other committee positions – for the 160+ sports clubs and societies at De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU).
You can find out who you and the members of your student group have chosen to #PowerYourUnion as your next committee on each group’s page on the DSU website.
Derrick Mensah, VP Student Activities at DSU, was on the committee of several groups during his time as a student at DMU, and has spoken multiple times about the benefits of becoming a student leader.
He said: “I’d like to say a huge congratulations to each and every student who has been elected to a place on their sports club or society’s committee next year.
“The hard work starts here – it’ll be one of the busiest years of your life, but equally one of the most rewarding.
“And remember the saying; ‘the more you do, the more you do’, so make sure you get engaged with students’ union in as many ways as possible over the next 12 months.”

Students will now be trained to fulfil their roles at an Activities Training Conference in April, before taking up their positions in the next academic year.
The training, designed to cover every aspect of being a student group leader, will be delivered in partnership with DMUsport and will also see the launch of our Activities HQ – a dedicated space on the students’ union website which contains every resource your committee will need over the next year.
Activities Training Conference will cover topics from how to increase your student group’s membership, to following health and safety procedures and booking #DMUglobal trips as well as using your membership to make a difference in the local community.
The first wave of successful Course Reps – who will represent the academic interests of their fellow DMU students – have been announced. Read more here.
