My Period Power – Let’s Talk. Period.
Why Period Dignity Matters More Than Ever

Women's Liberation Officer - Paige Billings
Menstruation is a natural part of life, yet conversations around it remain hushed, stigmatized, and often overlooked—especially in academic settings. Recognizing the need for change, Women’s Liberation Officer, Paige Billings, is launching her ‘My Period Power’ campaign to spark open and honest discussions about the realities of menstruation.
This campaign is designed to bring together women and people who menstruate to share experiences, challenge outdated attitudes, and promote dignity, education, and support at De Montfort University. Through a series of interactive events, Paige aims to break the silence and empower students with the knowledge and confidence to talk about menstruation without shame.

The event will feature acoustic performances, spoken word poetry, and two guest speakers—Paige herself, who will discuss the experiences of women in university, and a special guest speaker who will address women’s experiences in the hospitality industry.

Why ‘My Period Power’?
At De Montfort University, thousands of students experience menstrual cycles in different ways—each with its own challenges, from pain and fatigue to emotional highs and lows. Despite this, the subject is often ignored in academic settings, leaving students without the knowledge or support they need.
Paige’s campaign aims to bridge this gap by increasing awareness and normalizing conversations about menstruation, helping students, peers, and educators foster a more inclusive and understanding university environment.
A better understanding of menstrual health benefits everyone—not all women bleed, and not all people who bleed are women. By breaking the silence, we create a space where students can thrive without stigma.
