Hi, I’m Thom and I’m standing to be your Deputy President Education.
What will I do for you?
It’s time to Hold Your Academics to Account!
Us students aren’t getting good worthwhile feedback, we’re paying £9000+ to have lecturers read slides word for word and they’re using books and course materials we can’t all get access to. I will lobby the university and speak directly with lecturers who are doing it well to change this. It’s time we held our Academics to account, so we can make your investment in your future, a worthwhile one!
Let’s make Wednesday great again!
Too many of you are missing out on great opportunities to get involved with sports, volunteering or part-time work because lectures and seminars are being scheduled on Wednesday afternoons, something against NUS policy. As students, we should be able to get involved on a Wednesday without worrying about lectures. I’ll work with the university to keep your Wednesday free for you.
We need to work together to End the attainment gap!
At De Montfort, Black Asian Minority Ethnic students on average do 13% worse than their white equivalents and we must work together to combat this. Through hiring more BAME professors and encouraging courses to get BAME speakers, I’ll help begin the long process of ending the attainment gap.
Whether it has been standing up to lecturers, to moving clashing deadlines or representing your voice at Council I have been and will be there to represent you. As chair of Education council, chair of Politics Society, and twice a Course Rep I have made it my priority since starting university to make your life better.
This is your chance to be the difference, vote for me, Real Change for Real Students.
