My name is Kelly and I’m your postgraduate officer, chair of SCUBA and clocked over 100 hours of volunteering. I was also your first ever DSU Personality of the year and now I want to be your VSPA.
What I have done this year?
So far I have:
- Ran an event for postgraduate and mature students during Fresher’s Week.
- Supported the establishment of the PHD society.
- Campaigned for more DMU Global opportunities for PG students.
What do I want to do?
·Send you abroad:
Every student group at DMU should all be entitled to run a global trip! They deserve a clear application process and the opportunity to edit their itinerary if needed! If elected, I promise to help every student group go Global by providing support during every step of the application.
Increase sports participation:
1 in 5 students are currently unable to take part in university sport due to cost. If elected, I want to lobby to find ways to minimalise all financial burdens in sport.
Let’s also establish a fund so that sports clubs can provide specialist equipment and courses in order to help support disabled students who may not have been able to access them otherwise.
- Provide more opportunites to join student groups:
Over the past year, certain student groups aren’t feeling the DSU love and this can be fixed with simple changes. If elected I promise to:
- Establish a ‘quiet hour’ during the activities fair for students with anxiety.
- Organise specialist events for PG and Mature students.
- Work with DMU Sport to have specialist DMU Active Students for LGBTQ+ and BAME student during Pride/ Black History month.
- Introduce the society varsity into the official varsity scoring system, bringing awareness to how amazing societies’ are.
So get ready for this jelly and vote for Kelly!
