Last year, you elected me as your Vice President Student Activities.
I campaigned with the aim of bringing the university together and making the Students’ Union for everyone. With the Activities department understaffed and resources limited this year compared to previous years, I have kept every promise I made in my manifesto last year.
I have had to readjust and find other ways to get support. I have over 60 Faculty Ambassadors, 10 students in my events team and 8 students in my RAG team who all helped me with events and initiatives this academic year.
I have cultivated closer relationships with more student groups than my predecessors. Additionally, I have termly Chairs meetings with them to highlight any issues and encourage involvement from them in all I do.
With the help of the newly formed Faculty Ambassadors, I established the Faculty Championships, which aims to engage students at Faculty level and help them to expand their network. A survey conducted this year showed that students want more to be done, more events!
I plan to:
- Keep developing the Faculty Championships- Inter Faculty Competitions
- Affirm the bonds with Sports and Societies- Collaborated events for student groups
- Improve the communications for student group events to the wider student body
- Encourage and help establish more academic societies
I started this journey to change the culture of engagement on June 30th, 2017 and I’m not done, we are not done.
The Faculty Ambassadors and various events teams all want to finish what we started. We still have work to do.
You want a candidate who understands how things work, can effectively engage with the university bosses, implement change and most importantly, has a passion to make student life more memorable. I believe I am that candidate.
