I was approached to undertake the role of Community and Welfare two years ago but felt I lacked the experience of De Montfort, leaving me ill - equipped to fully carry out the role. Having almost completed my studies, I have developed key personel and legal skills, which I hope would benefit our students on issues as diverse as housing through to exam stress.
People judge me to be reliable in under-taking and seeing through tasks to their completion. As part of the DSU team, Community and Welfare needs to build on previous success and continue to help all of our students to gain a positive experience from DMU, integrate with our local and global community and have the confidence to succeed and achieve their full potential.
As Community and Welfare Officer, I would hope to actively promote our DMU Student Charter, represent our students in whatever way is needed and drive forward further change for positive progression, offering support to all students no matter what their faith, colour, sexual leanings or disabilities.
In June, I will have completed my DMU experience and with some legal background, I would hope to be able to guide those seeking help, whatever the issue and however huge they may think it is, to some positive solution. We all need help at some time in our lives and it is available as long as we know where to ask for it. Let’s spread the message that Community and Welfare is the place to go!
