VP Welfare and Community Candidate

The definition of welfare is health, happiness and fortunes of a person or group. I understand how important your welfare is and sometimes, due to the pressures of University, we often put our welfare on hold. In my first year, I had the idea that happiness will come after I graduate. Becoming the Events and Promotions Manager for the Afro-Caribbean Society allowed me to bring people together in an environment they felt comfortable in. Last year I was able to participate in a #DMUglobal trip to Thailand where I taught English to some of the most deprived children in Bangkok. This experience showed me that amongst all the hard work, happiness can be achieved at the same time.

My aim is to show you that whilst you are at university your welfare will always be put first. If elected I will do the following:

  • Provision of support to improve mental health for students
  • I will create an environment where students have access to 24-hour professional support Monday to Friday.
  • I will create more events on how to spot symptoms in family/friends
  • Access to more financial support.
  • I will campaign for the University to create more bursaries for students from low income families and for students who don’t receive external financial support.

  • I will create more access to financial guidance in how to spend/save money and how to improve your credit.
  • Religious Respect
  • I will campaign for more prayer rooms on campus which are accessible throughout the whole year.
  • Motivational classes with support from all year groups and lecturers
  • I will put classes together for you to learn from others and gain the motivation you need to continue throughout your University journey.
