Democracy at DMU

Students are at the heart of De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) – your union is led by you and here to support you. Every De Montfort University (DMU) student automatically becomes a member of the students’ union, which means they can participate in the democratic processes of the union.

Our elections ensure that your student representatives champion change on the things that matter most to you;

  • Each member of DSU can vote in our leadership elections to vote in the next Executive Officers, Liberation Officers and NUS Representatives who will lead your union for the next year.
  • Each student group member can vote for their committee members who will lead and organise their society community over the next academic year.
  • Each course member can vote for their Course Rep who will represent their course mates and academic interests.
  • Each member of DSU can vote in their Zone members who are the voting members of Student Council.

Every member of DSU is able to get involved and influence decisions that are made within DSU, including campaigns, policy, Officer scrutiny and voting on key issues at the Annual Members Meeting.

Getting involved at DSU is the best way you can help make a difference to the student experience so make sure to take advantage of the opportunities available to you.

If you do not wish to be a member of the students’ union then you can choose to opt out by emailing voice@dmu.ac.uk.
